When He Calls My Name

For months
My mother carried me,
Dreaming of the day
She would see my face
And give me a name.
For years
I heard my name
Called from across the house
Across the yard
Across the street
To come to supper
To come for discipline
To come home.
For me
This name means different things
From different people.
My mom
My friends
My lover
Each say my name
In their own way
And each is special
To me.

For eternity
The Father has known me
Longing for the day
When I will see His face
And hear Him call my name,
The name He has always had for me.
I have never heard it,
But it will be special to me
Because it will be my own.
